Building College-Ready Habits, One Binder at a Time

My Project

My students are bright, determined, and full of potential. Many of them will be the first in their families to attend college, and they’ve chosen to challenge themselves by joining our school’s AVID program. AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is more than just a class—it’s a commitment to academic excellence, personal responsibility, and college readiness. One of the most essential tools in our AVID classroom is surprisingly simple: a binder.

While it may seem small, a well-organized binder is a cornerstone of the AVID philosophy.

It teaches students how to manage their materials, track assignments, reflect on their learning, and take ownership of their academic journey. AVID binders are used daily and include Cornell notes, goal-setting sheets, grade trackers, tutorial forms, and more. With structure and consistency, students learn valuable skills like organization, time management, and self-advocacy—skills that will follow them beyond high school and into higher education.

Unfortunately, many of my students come from low-income households and cannot afford basic supplies like binders, dividers, or sheet protectors. Without these materials, they can fall behind in AVID routines and miss out on the full benefits of the program. Your donation will provide each student with a durable AVID binder and the tools needed to maintain it throughout the year. These supplies will not only support their success in the classroom but also build confidence and independence that will carry them into the future.

With your help, we can give every student the opportunity to be organized, prepared, and college-bound. Thank you for investing in their dreams—one binder at a time.
