My Project
Students in my English class do a lot of group work. They must collaborate in all kinds of ways - reading groups, writing teams, projects, peer feedback, discussions, etc. Funding this project will help me to build community by developing trust, empathy, and understanding for the variety of experiences students bring to the room. With board games, they will get to do this in a way that is low stakes, fun, engaging, and face-to-face.

In order for students to collaborate their must be trust between them. Students learn best when they learn communally, when they think together they think deeper, when they connect to each other their perspectives broaden, when they engage passionately with each other they become lifelong learners. I want my students to be able to challenge themselves, to discuss their different perspectives, make connections between their lives, and develop a greater learning community. But there's got to be community first and this is a great place to start.
