Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work in one of the most diverse schools in Salt Lake City. My students bring a beautiful tapestry of cultures and languages to our school. We are a dual immersion school and most of our students are bilingual or working on becoming bilingual. My students face many of the challenges that come with poverty, but they are bright, happy and ready to learn.
My Project
As the school counselor, I often use picture books in classroom lessons, small groups and with individual students. I'd love to expand my library so that I have books on hand to address the needs of my students as they arise.
I've found that one of the best ways to teach young children about emotions, character traits and social justice is through picture books.
Picture books are engaging and relatable and are a simple and effective way to reach students of all ages! I want books that reflect the diversity of my students in the book's characters and experiences.
