Building Character and Mindfulness Through Video Making
Help me give my students to complete set of video equipment (microphone system, memory card, slider, and tripod) to communicate character education and mindfulness.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from a very low socio-economic environment in which most of them receive free lunch in our district. These children come from all types of backgrounds and many are children that have migrated to the United States. Many of my students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now thrust into a formal school setting. We move from learning letters to reading very quickly. We help students learn English while holding on and becoming literate in their own language as well.
My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations.
They hold the American Dream, but need the tools to make them successful.
My Project
Our students are part of a generation that requires more emphasis on character building and mindfulness, and this may be accomplished with technology. The video projects we will be working on (with the requested microphone system, memory card, slider, a lens, and tripod) will be focused on showing character traits important to have a successful academic experience, bringing a greater sense of community in school and at home, and inspiring the students to do better, to do more, to be better, and be more.
Although social media plays an important part of bringing school community together, the content we will be producing will be even more important in communicating character education and mindfulness.
We believe that academic success in urban school district need special focus on character education and mindfulness to achieve academic excellence. These approaches to high academic achievement must start as early as preschool, and that is why we want this project to be funded. There are many ways to improve education, and media technology is certainly one avenue worth exploring.
The equipment will be used to support our commitment to provide students with opportunities to improve on character education development, increase mindfulness through media recording and sharing with students and parents digitally through social media and online websites. In front the camera, students develop self-esteem and confidence, aligned with the development of "grit", which has been proven to help students academically. The resources will be used in school concerts, school assemblies, special projects (American Education week, week of the young child, character education videos), and student directed activities, etc.
