Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I absolutely love the curiosity and energy my first graders bring to the classroom. Each student is unique, and many of them have different learning styles and needs, which makes our class a vibrant place to teach. Many of my students thrive when learning is hands-on and interactive, which is why the materials I’m requesting will make such a difference.
The sensory toys will provide my students with calming tools to help them self-regulate and focus during lessons, particularly for those who may struggle with attention or emotional regulation.
The math manipulatives, like counters and Legos, will help students grasp foundational math concepts in a fun, tactile way. These tools are especially important for teaching financial literacy at this young age, as they allow students to physically engage with numbers and concepts, making abstract ideas like saving and spending easier to understand.
The math dry-erase boards and laminating paper will allow us to reuse materials and create interactive learning opportunities, where students can practice math skills over and over again. This not only helps with skill retention but also makes learning feel playful and dynamic.
My goal for this project is to create an engaging, supportive environment where students can develop both their academic and emotional skills. My students are special because of their enthusiasm and determination—they rise to every challenge and work hard to improve each day. These resources will give them the hands-on tools they need to build confidence and succeed in math while providing sensory support to help them stay focused and calm in the process.
