Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Learning about community helpers in PreK allows children to make connections between what they learn in school and their everyday experiences. They can recognize community helpers they encounter in their neighborhoods, such as firefighters, police officers, teachers, doctors, and mail carriers.

By learning about the roles and responsibilities of community helpers, children develop empathy and appreciation for the people who work to keep their community safe, healthy, and functioning.

My goal is to use these community helpers books and activities to help foster a sense of belonging and responsibility to the community. Children will learn about different occupations, how they contribute to the community, and how they interact with one another. Overall, teaching about community helpers in pre-kindergarten not only enhances children's understanding of the world around them but also helps in their social, emotional, and cognitive development.
