My Students

My students are enthusiastic about learning through experimentation and discussion. They love to take risks in the relative safety of the classroom.

Failure is an important concept in my classroom and not looked upon as a negative.

I do not mean this in the academic sense but in the that you should not be afraid to try things and reflect on the reasons for the outcome. My students appreciate this part of my classroom culture.

My Project

After 18 months of learning through a computer screen, this project will get my students back into using their hands to learn about how to approach challenges, work collaboratively, and understand some basic engineering concepts. Bridge building is a great way to get students to think about how things are built and, more importantly, why they were built that way. Unlike most structures that hide their load baring features, bridges usually leave them out in the open allowing students to easily relate their classroom activities to their observations of the world.
