My students need a laptop with video editing capabilities to complete their Building Bridges video project.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine being judged just because you had an accent, wore clothes that were slightly different, or practiced greetings that were not considered normal. My students, new immigrants to the US, face these challenges daily.
My students are new immigrants to the U.S.
They come from over 60 different countries and speak over 50 different languages. They are smart, sweet, respectful, kind, open-minded, and wise beyond their years. I feel lucky to have the opportunity to work with my students. I learn so much from them, far more than I teach them.
My Project
In my human rights class we are focusing on recent human rights abuses against immigrants on Long Island, including the murder of Marcelo Lucero. In response, students have created video diaries, digital stories, and written pieces telling their stories. Our hope is that through their stories, people will begin to see the value immigrants add to this country instead of seeing them as a threat. We will be posting these stories in various formats on the NIOT website, as a blog. However, we are now stuck as we need a Macbook Pro laptop to edit the video diaries and digital stories. This computer has the proper editing software and is powerful enough for video work. If funded, this project will help bring my students' work alive, and help us finish our project. Further, I'm happy to share my methodology. I would be excited to share all work done on this project in this year or future years with any interested teachers.
If you support this project, you will be helping to fight for human rights.
Immigrant rights are human rights, and this project will help to empower a group that has been struggling to feel acceptance and equality in an ever-hostile environment. Your support will help provide young people with the chance to tell their stories and bring new eyes into their world.
