Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As a bilingual 4th and 5th-grade teacher in a low-income community, I have the privilege of working with students who are full of potential, creativity, and determination. What makes them special is their resilience and their eagerness to thrive in both English and Spanish. However, one of their biggest challenges is the lack of diverse, bilingual reading materials to support their learning in both languages.
This is why I’m seeking your help to build a bilingual classroom library.
The resources I’m requesting will make a huge impact by:
Providing students with a comfortable area rug assigned for reading.
Enhancing literacy skills: Providing books in both English and Spanish will strengthen my students' reading abilities in both languages, helping them become confident, skilled readers.
Fostering a love of reading: A wide range of books across genres will engage my students and encourage them to read for fun, increasing their academic success and curiosity.
Promoting cultural pride: By offering books that reflect their heritage, my students will develop a sense of pride in their bilingual identity, empowering them in both their education and their lives.
My goal is to create a classroom library that offers students the opportunity to read books that reflect their experiences, interests, and backgrounds, all while supporting their growth as bilingual learners. With these resources, I aim to foster a love of reading, boost their language skills, and help them build the confidence they need to succeed academically.
