My students need to engage in building play that will develop their fine motor skills and their creativity. I have some materials in my class but I need more.
My students are special because they are incredibly kind and thoughtful. It is normal for kids at this age to be more focused on themselves and their own needs. My students go out of their way to help their friends and share with them. I have been teaching for 13 years and this year I have been surprised by the empathy and kindness that my class has demonstrated.
I want to give them the best, my best.
When I ask them to do their best work, I see an increase in their effort. It makes me want to do more for them. Many of my students didn't attend a preschool so it is important that they learn foundational skills quickly.
The families are very supportive and go out of their way to thank me for anything that I do.
My Project
My students are allowed to have group oriented play time in the class every day. I currently have a small supply of Legos and a few other things but not enough for them to build a large structure. Building play develops fine motor skills that have been limited by the use of technology in their lives.
Students need building play as it improves fine motor skills and creativity.
I notice that students are proud of the things they create when using building toys. Building games promote better math skills and math thinking. In the 13 years that I have been teaching, there had been a dramatic decrease in 'building toys' in children's homes. Technology has replaced toys in many homes.
