Building Blocks to Success

My students need magnetic building block sets to learn while they explore.

My Students

I teach at a great rural school near the coast of South Carolina. Our school houses Pre-K through fifth grade with a student population of about 800 students. Although our elementary school is one of the biggest in our district, we have a family feeling to it that visitors notice when they walk through the front doors. We have a total of six kindergarten classes. With a school this big, our population is extremely diverse. We have very low economic families in our community, but these children are always eager to learn and ready to over come obstacles. I want to help my students who are just beginning their school careers go even further and really push themselves. Your donations will make that dream possible for my classroom.

My Project

Magnets have been around for quite a while now and are loved by children. I can not wait to see my students dig in and begin exploring using these magnetic blocks. Whether students are building houses or their own unique design, they can use the magnetic blocks to create a variety of structures and designs. Students will also be able to create stories to go along with their structure.

Imagine being able to create some of the most fantastic looking cars, Ferris wheels or even a castle.

This is just the beginning of what these different containers of magnetic building blocks will allow my students to begin creating. The open center of these blocks will allow my students to attach number and letter cards so that we can use them for literacy and math centers as well.

Magna-Tiles are a lot harder to knock over than traditional building blocks thanks to each tile having magnets on all sides. Children can start learning about magnetic principles, gravity, and other science concepts as soon as the tiles come out of the box!
