This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Students:

Many of my students come from homes where books are limited and access to literacy resources in Spanish or bilingual formats is rare.

They are eager learners who benefit greatly from culturally responsive materials that reflect their language and identity.

Creating an inclusive, literacy-rich classroom environment is key to supporting their growth—not just as readers, but as confident, empowered learners.

My Project:

This project will help me build a classroom library stocked with high-quality, engaging fiction and nonfiction books in Spanish and bilingual formats. These books will:

Foster a love of reading in both English and Spanish.

Support language development and comprehension skills.

Reflect the diverse cultures, experiences, and interests of my students.

Provide access to books they may not have at home.

With your help, I plan to include a wide range of genres and topics—everything from biographies and science-themed nonfiction to fun adventures, folktales, and relatable stories about family and friendship. These books will be available for daily independent reading, small group lessons, and take-home reading to encourage family engagement.

Why This Matters:

Many of my students are bilingual or emerging bilinguals, and they thrive when they see their home language celebrated in the classroom. Exposure to books in Spanish helps strengthen their literacy foundations, build confidence, and deepen their connection to learning.
