Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Building Better Thinkers" our school-wide goal is to develop students into better thinkers. In order to achieve this goal, we must teach in a variety of different ways for a variety of different learners.

My students are very bright and energetic kids who love to learn and have fun while doing so.

We are very fortunate to have a beautiful, new, rebuilt school. My kids are still recovering from a devastating tornado that took their school, many of their homes, and much of their city. While we are moved into our new school; we are finding many of the games and centers we had before the tornado are still missing. My students enjoy playing games and learning by doing hands-on activities. They would be so excited to have new materials to add to their new classroom. Along with meeting our learning needs, these new materials will help give my kids a sense of normalcy, pride, and ownership of their new surroundings.

My Project

The materials for math include place value activity sets, pocket charts, and wipe and write boards. For many children, place value is a very abstract concept and difficult to master. These manipulatives will give them something concrete to grasp and visualize, while learning the concepts of place value. The set of dice will allow students to play a variety of games involving number sense, problem solving, and basic math facts. While it seems very simple, the dice games are some of the students' favorite games that we play. The math vocabulary set will enhance our academic vocabulary. The set includes definitions of vocabulary terms, along with a visual image and mathematical example of the terms use. This is a powerful learning tool for all students, especially those who are more visual learners. This will serve as a constant reminder of the language of math that we are learning everyday in the math lesson. The Reading games will be a fun way for students to enhance their reading skills during center activities.

Your donation of these hands-on materials and learning games will enhance our classroom by helping to make learning fun.

The games and materials will help make our brand new surroundings more normal for my students. Instead of remembering all of the things that were lost, they will be able to focus more on learning the skills they need to succeed in 3rd grade. Yes, these materials will help my students learn, but they will also help them rebuild and continue to recover.
