This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach first grade in a large, urban school district.

My class is filled with very energetic 6 and 7 year olds who love to read!

Our classroom consists of readers of varied levels. Some are struggling readers while others are becoming quite fluent.

Our morning is a very busy time as we engage in numerous activities to better our reading skills. Whether we are in whole group or small group, my students are eager to learn new strategies that will help them become better readers.

My Project

Having fun ways to learn and practice sight words will have a big impact on furthering their reading skills. I am requesting sight word activities such as the Phonics Word Builder and Tower of Sight Words to help them become more fluent readers. My students will use the writing journals to create stories of their own to read and share.

Most of my students are in the beginning stages of learning to read.

Learning different decoding rules and strategies can help enhance their reading skills. The chart and writing paper will help us to extend and reinforce these strategies that will help them to become better readers and writers.
