Building Belonging Through Books

Help me give my students a classroom library where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired through diverse stories, antiracism themes, social-emotional learning, and girls excelling in STEM fields.

My Project

I love to celebrate the incredible diversity in our school community. My students come from many different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, and I believe every child should feel seen, valued, and celebrated—especially in the books they read.

As I transition to teaching younger students, I’m rebuilding my classroom library with intention and heart.

I’ve carefully chosen books that reflect the identities of my students and introduce them to the rich diversity of the world around them. One of the books I’m most excited to share is BIG by Vashti Harrison, a beautiful and empowering story that explores the challenges of growing up as a Black girl in a world that often misunderstands strength, confidence, and emotion. It’s a powerful reminder that our kids are allowed to take up space and be their full, brilliant selves.

I’ve also selected the Lee & Low Antiracism Collection to help build early awareness and empathy, and the Girls in STEM bundle to inspire curiosity and confidence, especially among my girls who may not always see themselves represented in science and math. These books go beyond reading skills—they teach self-worth, resilience, and hope. With your support, I can build a library that truly belongs to all of my students.
