My Students
My students are great! I teach five and six year olds who are excited to learn. They are motivated to learn new things and moved to apply new instruction, skills and concepts.
Our school is a learning driven environment, where teachers inspire children to learn and grow, children are proactive and motivated about their own learning and our administration is dedicated to providing the best education available to the students that our school serves.
Our school educates children who are from mostly middle-class backgrounds. But, our area also draws in children who may not have access to education, technology or who may be second language learners.
My Project
Having LEGOs Duplo Blocks and Cubelets Robot Blocks in my kindergarten class will allow me to challenge learning in my classroom every day. One way these materials will be used is as a STEM center. Students will have an opportunity to create and problem-solve as they work with these materials. Another way these materials will be used is in classroom challenges as we create, engineer and solve together, i.e. making the tallest tower or smallest robot.
These STEM materials will be used for children of all abilities.
Both children who are performing at high levels in the classroom, and children who are struggling learners will benefit from using these problem-solving materials.
My project will make a difference because children will be encouraged to problem-solve, engineer and experiment. They will learn to work together, increasing articulation and critical thinking. They will be encouraged through playful practice and experimentation to solve problems and challenges in multiple ways.
My classroom is not yet a full STEM environment. This grant will help move my students and classroom in that direction; by incorporating creativity and innovations in science, technology, math and engineering into everyday learning through STEM activities.
