My Students
Our classroom has a diverse range of learning styles and personalities. My students are probably 32 of the most inspiring people I know.
Each day I have gotten to know more about these wonderful students, I think about how I have thirty two possible "game changers" sitting in front of me in this room.
Each boy and girl has the potential to change the world in my eyes and I let them know that every day.
As a class they love to express themselves and are very creative. Books are seen as treasure troves of stories and knowledge. Asking them to read is never an issue!
When they walk in the door in the morning I make it a priority to create an environment that embraces each student's learning potential and ability.
My Project
These materials are super important for the emerging and expanding ESL students in my classroom. My school has a high ESL/ELL population.
My goal is to fortify my literacy materials with all the appropriate tools for my students to reach the stars and shoot for the moon.
I teach in a Gen Ed classroom of 32 students. The majority of these children are ESL students. As I mentioned they are on varying levels from emerging to expanding. This is why the materials on the project list vary on all different levels; from building words and sentences to high intervention skills packs.
The English Language Development Activity Cards and Reading Rods will help support my students far below grade level reading and writing levels. These students need extra phonics support as well as sentence structure support. These two materials will be a staple in our literacy center and a big support during small group work.
The Comprehension Kit text sets are for my ESL students who are at an expanding level, but cannot break past this bench mark to the commanding level. These sets provide high interest reads and graphic organizers to differentiate and break down texts. These will also be used during small group work.
Although my students have many different learning styles and cultures they have one thing in common. All of my students have vibrant personalities and a passion for learning. Having these learning manipulatives and materials will only help their passion thrive.
