Building an Architect!

My students need various LEGO and DUPLO building sets including the hospital set, the community workers set and the bulk brick packs.

FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Poindexter's classroom raised $604

This project is fully funded

I am a Full Day Kindergarten educator. At any given time, I have 25-28 students in my classroom--many who are coming to school for the first time and have limited social and academic skills.

I purchased a few sets of Lego's and DUPLO blocks in the past, but over the years our classroom supply has dwindled, leaving my students without the building materials necessary to problem solve, communicate with others, and design and build structures. I also attended a Math Academy that stressed the need for teachers to provide students with the materials necessary to develop problem solving and mathematical skills so that in the future many more of them would be interested in becoming Architects, Engineers, Scientists, and Mathematicians.

LEGO blocks and DUPLO blocks are critical to my students and their ability to think through situations and to communicate their wants and needs to peers and adults. Each day the children have "Discovery Time" where they are allowed to do just that-discover personal skills that are strengths and participate in activities that bring them out. Many times I put the small supply of LEGO and DUPLO bricks that I have out for the children to explore with and the conversations and team building that come from that experience are incredible! I include building activities in many themes I teach throughout the year, including Homes & Neighborhoods, The 3 Pigs, All About Me, and Pets.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to have a larger, more interesting supply of LEGO and DUPLO bricks and for many to find inter-personal skills and strengths they did not know they had! I also hope that by including more exciting LEGO and DUPLO elements in the selection, that many of my students would find a future career that may interest them.
