Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our classroom is a place where students’ diverse backgrounds and abilities are celebrated and viewed as an asset to their learning. Our students come from beautifully diverse backgrounds and include English language learners and students with disabilities.
Our students bring so much joy and energy to their learning.
Our school's families are incredibly hard-working and dedicated to their children's education. As a school community, we strive to provide our students and families with every experience and opportunity to empower them to realize their full potential.
The community was particularly hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and we are doing all that we can to ensure that students and families are supported as they come back to fully in-person schooling. We are particularly conscious of meeting social-emotional needs and accelerating learning opportunities to address gaps created by disrupted schooling.
We strive everyday to provide the highest quality learning experiences to engage our students and build a lifelong love of learning. We are so grateful for your support for this mission.
My Project
Help us boost the language and vocabulary development of our students while building critical social emotional skills! We are making some shifts in our first grade classrooms to ensure that learning is more hands-on, engaging and student-centered. Students will be engaging in interdisciplinary units to build reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. Part of this shift will include more dedicated time for hands-on, rigorous play opportunities aligned with content in social studies, science, reading and writing. Therefore, we are looking to provide our students new with materials such as LEGOs, art supplies and blocks.
Young children develop critical language, vocabulary and social-emotional skills through play and these skills empower them to be successful not only in school but throughout their lives.
