This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our 4th grade classroom, we want to set aside dedicated time each week to read aloud captivating picture books. This will foster a love for reading while allowing us to discuss and reflect on social-emotional themes. By reading together, we'll build a classroom culture that values empathy and understanding with discussions helping students to articulate their feelings, recognize diverse perspectives, and develop skills to manage their emotions. We also want to implement specific learning strategies that focus on rigor, utilizing short, engaging books to challenge students' thinking and encourage deeper comprehension.

To make this happen, we need a diverse selection of read-aloud picture books that address our focus themes, a display stand to showcase our weekly book selection, and fun bookmarks to further encourage students to track their favorite chapter books with peers.

These resources will allow our students to dive into stories that focus on self-motivation, celebrating diversity, self-awareness, and spreading kindness--key concepts that we believe will help our students thrive both in and out of the classroom!
