Building a Stronger Community Through Stories That Matter

Help me give my students a variety of engaging anchor texts that explore the essential question: How do people work together to create a strong community?

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Help me give my students a variety of engaging anchor texts!

These books will allow my fourth graders to see examples of teamwork, kindness, inclusion, and friendship through characters and situations they can relate to and learn from.

With your support, each student will have the chance to connect to stories that help us build our own positive, respectful classroom community.

Our first unit of the year focuses on creating a strong community, and I want my students to experience this theme through a wide variety of voices, genres, and perspectives. From Maybe Something Beautiful: How Art Transformed a Neighborhood to Just Ask!: Be Different, Be Brave, Be You, these texts will help my students reflect on how people work together, solve problems, and support one another.

Many of my students have limited access to books outside of school, and having these rich, diverse texts in our classroom will give them the opportunity to build empathy, improve their reading skills, and develop a sense of belonging.

By funding this project, you’ll put meaningful books in the hands of eager readers. You’ll help create a classroom environment where students can discuss important ideas, work collaboratively, and see themselves as part of a caring community. Your generosity will help us start the year off right—with stories that inspire and unite us!
