Building a Safe, Welcoming, and Science-Based Reading Intervention Space

Help me give my students, including those with reading disabilities, cozy seating, hands-on tools, and evidence-based intervention phonics materials, creating a safe space where they can learn and believe in themselves.

My Project

I work with small groups of students in grades K–5, including many with disabilities, to help them grow as readers through 12 targeted intervention sessions each week. My goal is to create a reading intervention room that is safe, comfortable, and equipped with high-quality, evidence-based materials grounded in the science of reading.

Many of my students struggle with foundational literacy skills, and for them, reading can feel overwhelming.

A calm, inviting space can lower anxiety and help them focus. I’m seeking resources such as flexible seating, visual supports, multisensory phonics tools, decodable texts, and organizational materials to make our sessions engaging and productive. These tools will support explicit, systematic instruction while helping students feel valued and capable.

Your support will transform this room into a place where struggling readers—especially those with learning differences—can build confidence, develop essential reading skills, and experience the joy of success. Together, we can give every child the opportunity to see themselves as a reader.
