This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My office is a hub for students with diverse and unique learning needs, including those in our Autistic Support program.

For many of these students, big emotions, sensory overload, and transitions can be a major challenge, often making it difficult for them to be successful in their classrooms.

My role is to provide the support and resources they need to navigate these challenges, and a dedicated "calm down corner" is an essential tool for this work.

I am requesting a set of tools to create a functional and effective calm down corner right in my office. These items will not be toys, but rather therapeutic aids for emotional regulation. The digital timers will help students learn to manage their time and understand that a break is temporary. The sensory items, such as fidgets and tactile toys, will give students a productive way to channel their energy and focus. The weighted pads will provide proprioceptive input, which is deeply calming for many students with sensory processing differences.

By having these specific tools available, I can provide immediate support to students in crisis and also teach them valuable coping strategies they can use throughout their lives. These resources will directly support my teachers by giving them a reliable space for students to de-escalate, reducing classroom disruptions and fostering a more inclusive and supportive learning environment for everyone. Your donation will not just furnish a corner; it will help build a foundation of emotional resilience for our most vulnerable learners.
