Building a Love of Reading - Part 2

My students need books to supplement the Blueprint for Literacy curriculum which helps to build literacy skills and a life-long love of reading

My Students

Children’s Village’s nationally accredited Preschool Program serves two hundred and eighteen children. We reach out to children of all backgrounds, including those whose circumstances — such as those living in poverty and those learning English as a second language — can undercut school success. In fact, ninety-one percent of our preschoolers are from low-income families and seventy-five percent are English language learners. Among our families, there are twenty-six different primary languages spoken, including Mandarin, Arabic, Cantonese, Polish Spanish, and Fujianese.

My Project

At the heart of each theme are high-quality books like "Take Me Out to the Yakyu", "Inch by Inch.", and "Compost Stew: An A to Z Recipe for the Earth". The books included in this project will supplement an earlier version of the Blueprint curriculum with the books from the latest version.

In addition to moving children to higher levels of reading and writing achievement, Blueprint help to build the capacity for high-quality instruction in teachers.

By strengthening children's knowledge of early literacy skills and concepts, and supporting their implementation of key literacy practices, Blueprint serves as a professional development resource that will benefit teachers’ continued growth.
