My Project
I’m a literacy coach at a Title I school where our students are resilient, capable, and full of potential. They come to school eager to learn and grow. Many don’t have books at home, so school is their primary source for reading materials. Despite the challenges they face, they’ve made measurable progress in early literacy—and now they’re hungry for stories that captivate, characters they relate to, and the tools to become confident, independent readers.
We’ve been blessed with an amazing collection of new books for our classrooms—books that reflect our students’ cultures, interests, and reading levels.
The problem? We have no proper way to store or display them. Right now, books are stacked in boxes or hidden away in corners, making it hard for students to browse and feel excited to read.
One bookshelf per classroom will make books visible, accessible, and inviting. A mobile book cart to support our “Birthday Book Giveaway,” where every student chooses a book to take home and keep—building their own personal library and reading identity.
By organizing and showcasing our classroom libraries, students will be able to independently choose books they are excited to read. Research shows that access to engaging books is directly tied to increased reading volume, improved comprehension, and academic achievement. These shelves will help us create spaces where books are celebrated, not stored away.
Our goals:
1. Promote daily independent reading through organized, welcoming classroom libraries.
2. Support comprehension growth by connecting foundational skills to real reading experiences.
3. Foster a genuine love of reading that carries beyond the classroom into students’ homes.
4. Increase student performance on the MCAP reading assessment by building reading stamina and understanding.
Your support will help turn our classrooms into book-rich environments where reading is a daily joy and a lifelong habit.
