Building a Love for Reading: First Grade Classroom Library Part 2

Help me give my students a cozy classroom library with books and comfy reading spaces that invite them to fall in love with reading every day.

My Project

Every child deserves access to engaging, high-quality books that spark their imagination and foster a love for reading. These books will continue to enrich the print-rich environment I strive to create. Our classroom library is a beloved space—students gather on the carpet to listen to read-alouds, complete their work, and enjoy quiet, independent reading time. Every book added to our library is treated with care and appreciated by my students, who are grateful for the opportunity to explore stories and ideas through reading.

With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of titles that support both their reading level and personal interests.

This sense of choice encourages ownership of learning, builds reading stamina, and improves comprehension. The specific items requested—leveled readers, diverse stories, beginning chapter books, and engaging nonfiction—will make a real difference by helping students strengthen literacy skills, build vocabulary, and connect reading to other content areas like STEM and social studies.

What makes my students special is their enthusiasm, kindness, and curiosity. Despite challenges outside the classroom, they arrive each day eager to learn, grow, and support one another. They take great pride in our library and show incredible responsibility in how they care for books and encourage one another as readers. Their excitement for reading is contagious, and this project will give them even more opportunities to flourish as thoughtful, confident, and joyful learners.
