Our school is situated in a rural area surrounded by beautiful mountains, farms, and a wonderful neighborhood!
My 1st graders this year are fantastic!
They are excited and ready to learn each day! Many of them groan when school is over, which tells me they enjoy learning and being a part of a great classroom and school community! It is such a great feeling to be with this group of kids each day. Teaching and learning go hand-in-hand, and this year is going to be amazing!
My Project
This year our school has a theme, "Building a Growth Mindset." Since 1st graders are in their early years of education, I want to make my classroom as fun and engaging as I can, while also letting them experience what it means to have a Growth Mindset.
Using things such as musical instruments, Legos, and other building materials, allows students to show and experience a creative side they may not know they have!
I love hearing students say, "I didn't know I could do that," or "My friend just showed me how I can connect these things together to make something really cool!" This is what Growth Mindset is all about...learning that you can achieve skills through effort, trying hard, and never giving up. What better way for 1st graders to experience that than through the use of building blocks and music!
The musical instruments will be utilized to help students have more exposure to the arts and possibly introduce them to something they have never tried before. There are so many different activities that I can do in class where the musical instruments will be used to help students practice having a Growth Mindset, learn, and have fun at the same time!
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) activities are a great way to engage students by integrating content knowledge across academic areas, and helping them use the parts of their brain that involve problem solving and creativity. The Legos, engineering building set, and Brain Flakes will be great resources for enhancing the "engineering" part of STEM!
