My Project
My students are struggling to understand and process thier emotions, keeping them from learning, creating friendships, and starting a cycle of self-doubt. Many of my students are low income, multi-lingual, and neurodivergent, giving them multiple layers to process and often additional barriers to being fully engaged in the classroom.
It is not ok that my students miss out on valuable learning, starting as early as kindergarten because they lack the social emotional skills to remain safely in the classroom.
My hope is to introduce these books to begin giving students the words they need to advocate for themselves and their sensory needs. Starting young, this will build them a foundation so that they are empowered to ask for what they need to learn, rather than continuing in a cycle of lack of confidence and discipline. Stories can connect with students and show them that they are not alone, making them powerful tools to build much needed skills.
