Building a Diverse Library for a Diverse Classroom

Help me give my students a classroom library full of engaging, multicultural books in which children can see themselves and the diversity of the world. Thank you so much!

My Students

My classroom consists of amazing, diverse third graders of all abilities! Our school consists of 50.2% economically

disadvantaged students.

Many of my students report they do not have access to books at home. These sweet 8 and 9 year old students come from many different backgrounds, both ethnically and socio-economically. My students are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.

My Project

By donating to our project, you will give students the opportunity to read and engage in literature that reflects their life experiences and the person they see in the mirror. With access to mirror texts, students are able to see that their narrative matters, and with access to window texts, students learn to understand and appreciate the narratives of others. These books will help teach my students more about each other and the world, and will help to show them that they are just as important as anyone else. My students are very diverse, so my library should reflect that diversity.
