My Students

My students are brilliant, engaging, and hardworking 4th graders. I have the privilege of teaching these bright and interesting young people each day.

The goal in our classroom is for all students to learn while also seeing themselves as learners who are ready to take on new challenges.

Our classroom community is filled with students who are excited about learning. My school is located in a low-income area; 75% of my students qualify for free/reduced lunch. The neighborhood is a mixture of cultures, first and second-generation immigrants as well as students and families who have called it home for generations. It is an incredible group of families, students, teachers, and community partners.

My Project

For Black History Month, our class is celebrating Black excellence and remembering Black leaders. Many months throughout the year, we are honoring and sharing about different leaders in a variety of communities. For example, we learn about different influential women during Women's History Month in February; Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15-October 15; Native American Heritage Month in November; and AAPI History Month in May.

This project will fund a variety of books to help engage my students and support their ongoing interest in leaders.

I love to have texts available for their research and study as we discuss different people each day. This collection of books will help to support my students as they learn about different leaders throughout history and today!
