Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various social economic backgrounds. They range from low income families to homes where parents are trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.

My Project

These materials make a difference in my students' learning by being a mirror that reflects to their customs, cultures and experiences. I want my students to see themselves being represented in these books. Along with that, I want these books to expose them to all different kinds of people, other than themselves. By reading and learning about new and different cultures, students will see people unlike them.

Building a diverse classroom library will give value to each student that walks into my classroom.

They will see that they are represented and are welcomed. They will learn about women who are scientists and mathematicians. They will benefit learning about what is a hijab. Reading and sharing these books with enthusiasm is essential so my students in turn will be motivated to explore and grow as thoughtful humans.
