My Students
The students in my classes are a diverse group, from a multitude of backgrounds. Some are from families where they will be the first to attend college, while others are from families where paying the monthly bills is a challenge.
All students deserve an opportunity to create skills that they can take with them into the work force or to college.
They are eager for life skills that can help them, as they finish high school and move forward in their lives.
My Project
We are spending this year in my English classes building a community of readers. Since everything in life is easier if you have strong reading skills, I want my students to practice building those skills every week.
We spend one day a week immersing ourselves in books.
To do this, I have been diligently working to build my classroom library to over 1000 books. The novels I am requesting all come from a list of the best novels to read this year.
One of the things that my classroom library is missing is pairs of novels for students to read with a partner. Often I find that students want to share books with their friends, which is difficult if there is only one copy of a text. These novels will allow students and friends to share in their literacy adventure.
