Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year, my classroom consists of twenty-two, incredible first graders who come in every single morning excited about learning, and can't wait to see what is in store for them. The students in my school district come from a very diverse variety of backgrounds and cultures. Of my students, I have nine English Language Learners in my classroom, as well as seventeen students who have open Response to Intervention (RTI) files. Our classroom is a community where students respect each other, the materials and resources in the classroom. Three-quarters of our school's population qualifies for free or reduced cost lunch.
In our classroom, we create a community that allows us to learn in an accepting and nurturing environment.
My Project
I can't wait to share this collection of books during our daily morning meetings. They will help develop a classroom culture of kindness and acceptance. These books will provide my students an opportunity to learn about empathy and develop a growth mindset. I want to encourage my students to love reading and to become independent readers by exposing them to this incredible literature.
My students will learn how to talk about differences, find similarities with classmates and include everyone.
They will love reading in a safe, nurturing and inspiring environment.
