This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an inner-city school that serves a Latinx and Black student population. The majority of students qualify for free or reduced-price breakfast and lunch. Our classroom supports a range of talented students including English learners and students with exceptionalities.

Our students live in an underserved part of our city and are a diverse group of learners.

They come to school to learn and participate even when the harmful choices and the inaction of our elected officials create extra hurdles to their success.

My Project

My goal is to build a library of several hundred books, including novels, comics, short story collections, and graphic novels. I want to provide my students with an engaging class library that is culturally inclusive. This project includes Black and Latinx works of fiction and nonfiction.

A classroom that has books and supplies can help create a supporting environment for students.

Glue sticks will help students keep their composition notebooks organized. Disposal face masks will help me keep students safe if they need an additional mask for whatever reason. Access to books to accommodate different reading levels, languages, and interests will help encourage reading growth this year and beyond for my students.
