Building a Classroom Community Within PBIS

Help me give my students the opportunity to learn about money management and personal finance. This includes Chromebook chargers, laptop stands, storage bins, and more.

My Project

I work at a Title I Middle School in Merdian, Idaho, and we are the only Title I Middle School in our district. We have a lot of high needs students, and I am supporting Special Education students with the highest behavioral needs. I am working on students advocating for their needs and working towards student ownership for their behavior. This project supports students to advocate for their own needs from self-calming tools to recognizing when they are hungry.

My vision is to start the school year with a classroom economy where students can earn rewards for positive behaviors and self- advocacy.

I will have each reward divided into tubs based off of how much they cost, to help students identify how much money they have, and which tub they can buy from.

I also want my students to understand what happens if they are not prepared or need something. For example, if students need to charge their laptop and don't have a charger, they will need to pay me to use a charger, or if they need headphones, they will also need to pay for those as well. I want to students to come to class prepared, and if they need something there will be a money consciousness. I hope to create a positive classroom community where students feel heard and learn to be prepared for each day at school.
