it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am excited to teach 4th grade for the first time in South Central LA, a vibrant and diverse community. My students are full of potential and curiosity, and I want to foster a love for reading in them just as I had at their age. This project aims to build a diverse and engaging classroom library that reflects their backgrounds and interests. The books I’m requesting will make a significant difference in their learning. A well-stocked library will provide my students with access to stories that mirror their experiences and introduce them to new perspectives, promoting empathy and understanding. These books will enhance their reading skills, critical thinking, and imagination.
My goal is to create a nurturing environment where students can explore different worlds through books, build their literacy skills, and develop a lifelong love for reading.
We will use these books for daily independent reading, group reading sessions, and thematic lessons that connect literature to social studies and science topics. By having a diverse range of books, students can see themselves represented and learn about others' experiences, fostering a more inclusive and empathetic classroom environment.
What makes my students special is their resilience and eagerness to learn despite the challenges they face. Many of them come from under-resourced backgrounds, and having a well-stocked classroom library will provide them with the resources they need to succeed.
