Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are from low-income communities while some of them are ESL learners and also bilingual students. My students are mostly living in apartments and have limited ways to stay motivated while learning remotely. The students belong to households where parents are struggling with English and cannot offer enough support at home.
My Project
My STEM classroom in a title one school was just getting started when we got interrupted by the pandemic and went remote. Our students ranging from grades Pre-K to grade 5 include ELL students, students with disabilities and bilingual students. They have been creating virtual designs for building and will benefit from hands on materials for engineering and building structures like homes, bridges and cars.
The students need hands on materials to explore the concept of designing, building and engineering to help them reinforce their math skills.
They get really excited to see materials that tap into their creativity and mathematical skills while working as a group to tackle challenges
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
