Builders in Need of Bricks

Help me give my students building bricks to complete engineering challenges and make models of science concepts.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Motley's classroom raised $250

My Students

My school provides a rigorous and safe learning environment for students in kindergarten through 12th grade. Three-quarters of my school's population receives free or reduced-price lunches.

We are located in rural Arkansas where the majority of my students have limited access to new technology.

My students are creative, smart, and love to solve problems. I am the school's Gifted and Talented Coordinator for grades K-12, the K-6 STEAM teacher, as well as the Robotics and Chess coach. I love providing opportunities for my students to shine through new experiences. My goal is to create an environment that fosters their creativity and boost their confidence.

My Project

I am teaching my elementary students the Engineering Design Process. Their favorite design challenges include engineering with building bricks. However, I only have a small amount of Legos in my classroom. With the new Covid19 regulations, students are not allowed to share materials which means I do not have enough bricks to go around. With this project, I will have enough building bricks for each student to have their own supply box to complete various challenges.

In addition to engineering, the building bricks will be used by my older students to demonstrate their understanding of science concepts.

They will use the bricks to build a flower and label the different parts of the plant. They will also make a model of the water cycle with the bricks. During our computer science unit, they will use the bricks to create a maze and code their robot to complete the maze autonomously.

These building bricks will be used for many years to come by many, many students. They will truly have a huge impact on my students' learning and the lessons I am able to plan for them.
