Help me give my students the chance to put their hands on physics. At the end of the year when some classes are showing movies, our students will design, mathematically prove and build their own roller coasters!

My Students
I have the best students in the world. La Mesa Arts Academy is a wonderfully diverse school representing southern California. We are known for our amazing performances and the beautiful things that we make but what people don't think about, is our amazing science department. We are the top scorers in the district and we can do so much better. By providing students with hands on experiences, we can make science apply to their lives and other classes. We believe in a hands on minds on approach and so do the kids. I want this year to be the best year they have ever had and this experiment type will get that job done.
My Project
The students build roller coaster from just paper and tape. Each student gets to design and build their own coasters. It must have a few features like a jump, cork screw or loop. They use different marbles and test them as the ball goes through the tracks. Each student gets to make their own so our classes end up looking like six flags. The students predict and describe the motion using the laws of motion and math. I can't tell you how fun it is to get students excited about using math outside their math classroom. I have done this for years and this time I would like it bigger and better with your help.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
