Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My multilingual learners in grades 5–8 are creative, curious, and eager to express their ideas. What I love most about them is their persistence. Many of my students are new to the country or have had interrupted schooling, yet they show up every day ready to learn, collaborate, and build confidence in English. They are proud of their cultures and excited to grow as speakers and writers.

The resources in this project will help my students practice English in meaningful and engaging ways.

The Magnatiles will be used for building challenges that require students to communicate with partners, use academic vocabulary, and describe their thinking out loud. The science experiment kits will give them real-world investigations that spark discussion, questioning, and explanation. These experiences support growth on the ACCESS speaking test by giving students authentic opportunities to talk through ideas.

The language building blocks will strengthen vocabulary, sentence structure, and idea development. These skills help students write with clarity and confidence. The origami books and paper will support procedural speaking and writing. Students will follow steps, ask for clarification, use sequence words, and explain how they folded each model. Afterwards, they can write simple how-to pieces or reflections. Origami becomes a fun and accessible bridge to academic language.

By combining STEM, art, and purposeful language practice, this project creates a learning environment where my multilingual learners can build, speak, and write with confidence. These materials will help them strengthen the communication skills they need to grow on their ACCESS scores.
