My Project
Fresh off a win at the National Association of Urban Debate Leagues' national championship, our already under-resourced team received the devastating news that Chicago Public Schools would cut our funding to $0 this school year to balance their budget. Our competitors have large debate budgets and get to take for granted the resources that our debaters have to fundraise for personally, but we are still winning!
Our debaters are primarily self-taught and have been able to compete (and win) against teams from the most elite private and public schools in the country using the knowledge they have gained from reading college-level texts. I believe our debaters are some of the most well-read teens in the country, and their depth ofexpertisee pays off in debate tournament wins.
The debaters have requested a debate library to continue learning and begin sharing books. They love reading complex critical theory, and having the books on hand at practice would be incredibly helpful. The books requested are their curated list of what they want to read.
