This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a first-year teacher in a Spanish-English dual language classroom, I’m preparing to welcome my very first group of students. While I haven’t met them yet, I know they’ll come with big dreams, unique stories, and a strong desire to learn in both languages. My students will be part of a low-income community, and I want to ensure they walk into a classroom filled with opportunities, encouragement, and books that reflect who they are.

This project will help me build a bilingual classroom library from scratch.

The books I’ve selected will support early literacy in both English and Spanish, help students grow as readers, and give them access to stories that reflect their culture and experiences. These resources will play a key role in developing their vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence. My goal is to create a space where every student feels seen, valued, and excited to read every day.
