My Students
This will be my first year teaching in a Pre-K Center. I love working with younger children. Three-year-olds and Four-year-olds are very inquisitive, and they are not afraid to say what is on their minds.
My students love the pretend area, especially the girls, although boys are showing more interest coming in and playing "daddy." It is amazing the things that they say when they are in here.
Many times they behave as their parents do, and treat the "baby dolls" like their own children. In addition to being used in the pretend area, these dolls are read to during reading time. The children take the dolls from the pretend area and read them stories after lunch or during transition times. It has become very natural for them to take a doll and start reading to them on their laps.
My Project
My students learn through monthly themes. Our next theme will focus on "Where We Live". This includes both animals and humans. Students will work in groups and as a whole class to come up with ideas for the different types of homes we can build. They will learn about the different types of homes people live in around the world, as well as in the city and the suburbs. Students will also learn about the different types of homes that animals live in, such as nests, damns, hives, etc.
This will be a great project that my students will work to paint, glue and build, as they problem solve on ways to build and to keep their structures up.
The corrugated sheets will be the walls that students can use to build homes with. Teachers will help students tape and glue as the students instruct. They will use the corrugated sheets, along with other art materials to help build their homes.
Snow in unpredicatable in NYC. We want students to create homes in the winter. The pieces of snow fabric will make it seem like the snow is indoors, and the light rope will light the way for my students to travel around and admire the homes that have been built. It will be amazing to see what they can come up with!
