This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are young enthusiastic learners! They enjoy designing and building structures with blocks. They especially enjoy racing vehicles down the ramps that they have created.
During choice time you'll always find a group of students in the block center building roads and constructing ramps.
Some of my students are preverbal and some are learning English as a second language. They use gestures, words and word approximations to communicate their wants and needs. Some of my students readily share their primary language, Spanish, with their English speaking peers and enthusiastically participate in learning opportunities that enhance their English skills.
My Project
These blocks will enhance the play-based learning environment that I strive to create and maintain. My students enjoy creating tall towers with our existing unit blocks. These new materials will be used to add variety to their play.
My students will develop spatial ideas and improve their language skills as we talk to them about their structures and design choices.
They will also be challenged and encouraged to build specific types of structures. Photographs, drawings and diagrams will be used to inspire and guide their construction projects.
My students will benefit from the additon of these maerials. Their vocabulary, cooperation and spatial reasoning will all be positively impacted.
