My students need a STEM bundle to build problem-solving skills and mathematical thinking, and to create opportunities for them to engage in engineering activities. They also need hands-on materials to help them build their interest in literacy.

My Students

I am teaching first grade at a school located in Anderson, South Carolina. My school is a Title I School in a rural community that serves K4 through fifth grade.

The students get lots of new experiences and learning resources at school, because they may not have the materials at home.

Although my 18 students may not have all the resources other students have, they are enthusiastic learners who are excited to learn through movement, hands-on activities, STEM projects, and technology.

My Project

These materials will create hands on experiences for my students to build engagement for literacy. Some of these STEM activities connect to fairy tales which will increase my students excitement for reading and help them connect with books in a whole new way. The other STEM kits will help my students build problem solving skills, critical thinking, mathematical thinking, and engineering skills. The materials will provide opportunities for them to collaborate with their classmates, learn and grow from their mistakes, and create projects that help them see the final product of their learning! With these materials my students will become twenty-first century learners!
