This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My school is located in the neighborhood of Hell's Kitchen in NYC. I have students from various backgrounds, home situations, and income levels. The majority of my students do live below the poverty line and many aspire to be the first in their families to attend college.
My students are passionate, unique individuals who come to our school to be engaged with real-life challenges and issues that are integrated into every area of the curriculum.
All students who attend our school have an interest in business, entrepreneurship, technology and sports.
My Project
There are many students at my current school who are interested in taking a coding or computer science course but our school does not have teachers trained to do so. The majority are GIRLS requesting the class!
Participating in the Exploring Computer Science with Code/Interactive will help me acquire the necessary skills to create a Computer Science course to meet the needs of my students.
In addition to providing my students greater access and inclusion in computer science education, I will also receive a stipend that will enable me to purchase supplies to launch the program in the fall. Thanks for coordinating this event, CSTA.
