My Students
I am a STEM teacher of 550+ Kinder - 5th-grade engineers from multiple cultural backgrounds. My learners love to move, learn, design, create and collaborate. They are eager to be successful, share with others, include others, be engaged, and be happy!
They are a diverse group of engineers that are risk-takers and ready to take on any challenge you put in front of them.
They are anywhere from 5 to 11 years old and being successful engineers in their everyday tasks can be difficult at times. I want to give my students the tools they need that will allow them to meet their peak potential for success! I will do anything I can for them to reach their goals! They deserve it! They are amazing!
My Project
Evidence has shown that it is necessary to provide not only academic areas of study in school but ones that also empower students to be successful in their social, emotional wellbeing, racial inclusion, racial equity, or antiracism in your classroom. My project is to provide social emotional learning (SEL) skills to our students through restorative practices on a circle carpet! I hope to provide SEL skills such as social and emotional awareness, self-awareness, emotion regulation, a sense of belonging, and a growth mindset all from the comfort of our new carpet!
At our school, students and teachers are focusing on social-emotional learning through restorative practices.
The requested rug will help me as the teacher incorporate the 6 essential practices of the method of the restorative practice with students while engaging in thoughtful discussions and learning opportunities.
Social skills are important for students and teachers to utilize and form relationships as well as, focus on racial inclusion, racial equity, or antiracism in my classroom. Relationships are also the backbone of the classroom and the social communication within it. The requested rug will provide a consistent and safe place for students and teachers to have discussions and build relationships. Relationships help everyone learn and have fun in the classroom and we will do just that, once we have our carpet to sit on. Social-emotional learning and the six essential practices of the method of the restorative practice will continue to help keep behaviors practical and productive in our classroom.
I know that our students will grow socially and emotionally on our new carpet and through our restorative practices.
