My students need live bug samples, an insect learning kit, and insect reading comprehension cards to help explore the world of science through insects!

My Students
Do you remember going outside and playing in the dirt? Do you remember finding small creatures to run in and show your parents? My students do not have these opportunities to explore their environment, especially insects that live in their environment.
I teach an amazing group of second graders at a charter school in a crime ridden, low income neighborhood in Northern California.
My students struggle to have their needs met on a daily basis. I want to enrich my students' lives with as many different experiences as possible while providing them with materials and access to experiences they might not encounter on their own.
My Project
The past two years, I have had the opportunity to raise insects in my classroom. My students LOVED the insects. They came to school each day excited to see how our "friends" were growing and changing and what had happened over night. Many of my students commented that their favorite part of the school year was learning about, observing, and raising our bugs. I want to provide this opportunity to my incoming class as well. The Amazing Bug kit and Painted Lady Butterfly kit will allow my students to explore the life cycles of butterflies, ants, beetles, ladybugs, horn bugs, and praying mantises. These experiences will make my students learning hands-on, and they will be able to have firsthand experiences with things many people take for granted.
Your contribution will allow me to bring science to life for my students.
You will enable my students to see firsthand the life cycle of a variety of insects and how they grow and change over time. This will allow my students to not only broaden their understanding of science but also develop a sense of compassion for small creatures. You will make a tremendous difference in my classroom and the lives of my students. Thank you!
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
