My students need budget-friendly technology to enhance music instruction. We are requesting a projector to help bring professional performances into our classroom.
Do you remember the first time you saw a professional music performance? Many of my band students could not answer that question because they do not have the means to see one. With the help of a projector, we would have the opportunity to bring the world of music into our classroom.
Every music teacher likes to gloat that they teach the best students in the world.
I do not need to say it, for I know that it is true! I say this not just because of their talent and enthusiasm, but perhaps more importantly because of their character.
The students I teach hail from every corner of the globe and bring their rich cultures into my classroom each and every day. We are a Title I urban school, with a high achieving student body. Many of our children came to this country with their families in search of better lives and greater opportunity. This gives them a remarkable sense of determination.
My Project
The most modern technology we have access to in the band room is an antiquated TV (which does not get reception), a VCR and a CD player. Although I hope someday to get a Smart Board, a projector is a budget-friendly alternative. I could use it with my personal laptop to project musical scores and show the children professional performances.
Concepts taught in an instrumental music class have the tendency to be large and rather abstract. Through the use of this technology, I could use a wealth of visual/aural games to ensure that more of my 200+ students have a solid conceptual understanding of the material.
The integration of technology is the current trend in education nationwide.
Due to severe budget cuts, my students' access to technology in music class has been essentially non-existent. Please help me enrich the music education of over 200 students each year. They are some of the most wonderfully deserving students you could ever meet. With your help the world would be at their fingertips!
