My Students
My students are dedicated, hardworking and ambitious. My students are from more than 20 different countries and speak many different languages including Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Hebrew, and Bengali to name a few.
Many of my students will be the first in their family to attend college in the United States.
The majority of my students have a strong financial need and hope to attend college on merit and need-based scholarships.
The school is located in an urban environment within Miami-Dade County.
My Project
In our senior-level Economics course, students are learning about creating (and sticking) to a budget. Students are also learning about the impact of the Federal Reserve Bank (The Fed) on their personal finances via interest rates, student loans and inflation.
Using hands-on, real world activities from Teachers Pay Teachers helps cement learning and take abstract concepts- like the Federal Fund Rates and inflation- and makes them more concrete to the students' lives.
Financial Literacy is the MOST practical skill taught for seniors. All students need to understand their own finances as well as the interaction and impact the Fed can have on their own wallet and wages.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
